AI research hasn’t changed since I started in this business 45 years ago but other things have:
- The Government is dumping large quantities of money into anything that anyone claims is AI. In the past AI was just a novelty.
- In the past AI was all about how infer answers from data—now it’s all about how much data you can manage.
- In the past we cared about trying to duplicate human thought processes—now no one cares how humans think and make decisions.
- There is enough processing power and memory available to run AI software. In the past we didn’t have it.
- After arguing about what type of code is or is not AI—nobody seems to care anymore—the race has heated up so much all anyone cares about is “does it act like AI?”
- The “rush to AI” is being made at the expense of safety. Human safety was always the number 1 requirement for AI researchers in the past.
- In the past we would not have considered anything that could not be trusted as safe. Now safety is being called something we will “eventually” achieve. The worst thing about this is that people are willing to see people die as long as the public eventually gets what they want.
- The meaning of TRUST has changed. In the past we spoke about trust in terms of safety. Now trust s being discussed in terms of trust in the Answers that AI gives us. This is causing what I call, “The Golden Idol Scenario”. In this scenario when we trust AI, it will be considered truth—it will overturn laws, change constitutions, and force its moral basis on us. Since w know that AI is biased, we will be forced to live with those biases. For Example, if our new “AI GOD of truth” hates guns, we will be forced to outlaw them.
We (Mankind) are heading back to the garden of EDEN—We have created our own Golden Idol to worship and those of us that want to follow the real source of truth will be subjected to ridicule, hate, and forced to accept the new false GOD of AI. Dont say I didn’t warn you.
